Tank PT-76B (East)

The Vigilante PT-76B is an amphibious light tank from the Soviet Union with the original model entering service since 1951. Its name in Russian is “плавающий танк” or ПТ-76, which translates to Floating Tank-76, with the number 76 indicating the main turret’s caliber of 76.2 mm. The vehicle is operated by 3 crewmates and has a thick 15mm armor made out of homogeneous, cold rolled, welded steel. Its design later inspired the Chinese Type 63 tank.

The PT-76B is an improved model of the original with a stabilized D-56TS rifled tank gun and a coaxial 7.62 mm SGMT machine gun. This variant was the last production model of the tank built at the Volgograd Tractor Plant. The PT-76B has an upgraded V-6B 6-cylinder 4-stroke in line water-cooled diesel engine with a larger fuel capacity and 263 horsepower, reaching up to 44 km/h (27 mph).

This vehicle blueprint comes with both desert and forest textures, is fully rigged, and includes animated tracks, gun rotation as well as elevation, and hatches. A destructible state model is included with damaged geometry, textures, and both fire as well as smoke FX. This asset also includes weapon firing and dust FX from the tracks when driving.

The asset is set up as a traditional Unreal vehicle with an interior but can be modified as needed to suit your purpose. It is drivable with proper physics performance by using Epic Games’ Chaos Vehicles plugin. The Chaos Vehicles plugin must be enabled for vehicle movement to work. Also, the environmental clouds are utilizing the Volumetrics plugin from Epic Games and the scene uses Lumen.

A sample showcase/demo Blueprint has been included with an environment map and User Interface (UI). When you “Play” the map, the UI includes camera presets, sliders, and buttons to demonstrate the key functionalities of the vehicle.

The Volumetrics plugin is used for the clouds in the scene by utilizing the volume creation and rendering tools therein. The Chaos Vehicles system plugin allows users to use vehicle physics simulations to make realistic vehicle movement.
