The Caesar self-propelled howitzer is considered a modern and effective artillery system that provides long-range fire support to ground forces while offering the advantage of rapid mobility and a relatively small logistical footprint compared to tracked self-propelled artillery systems.

The Caesar is a French system developed by Nexter Systems (formerly Giat Industries). It is known for its mobility, firepower, and versatility, and it has been used by several countries in various military conflicts.

Key features and information about the CAESAR self-propelled howitzer:

The CAESAR is mounted on a 6×6 wheeled chassis, which gives it high mobility both on and off-road. This mobility allows it to quickly reposition on the battlefield, reducing its vulnerability to counter-battery fire.

The primary armament of the CAESAR is a 155mm/52-caliber howitzer, which can fire a variety of artillery shells, including high-explosive, illumination, smoke, and precision-guided munitions. It has a range of up to 42 kilometres with extended-range ammunition.

One of the notable features of the CAESAR is its semi-automatic loading system, which reduces the crew workload and enables a higher rate of fire. It has a crew of five, with the commander, gunner, and driver in the cab, while the remaining two crew members are responsible for ammunition handling and other tasks.

The CAESAR can be adapted to different mission profiles and is capable of multiple types of fire support missions, including counter-battery fire, direct fire support for ground forces, and even precision strike capabilities with guided munitions.

The asset is designed as a standard Unreal vehicle with an interior, but it can be customized to suit specific project requirements. It is fully drivable, utilizing physics simulations provided by Epic Games’ Chaos Vehicles plugin. Please note that the Chaos Vehicles plugin must be enabled for proper vehicle movement. The scene incorporates Epic Games’ Volumetrics plugin for environmental clouds and utilizes Lumen for advanced lighting effects.

A sample showcase/demo Blueprint is included with an environment map and a user interface (UI). When you “Play” the map, the UI provides camera presets, sliders, and buttons to showcase the key functionalities of the vechiel.

Disclaimer:

This asset includes the use of Epic Games’ Volumetrics plugin and Chaos Vehicles system plugin for demonstration purposes only. However, the vehicle asset can be utilized and modified in personal projects without these plugins enabled.

The Volumetrics plugin is employed to create and render the environmental clouds within the scene, utilizing its volume creation and rendering tools. The Chaos Vehicles system plugin allows for realistic vehicle movement by utilizing advanced physics simulations.

  2. Thanks for the models, all are great for populating or learning as I am a simple hobbyist learning unreal engine. I have been spending a lot of time using a top view 2d engine but need to do something in 3d for a change.
