The Cougar Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) is a family of armoured vehicles designed to withstand landmines, IEDs, and other threats commonly encountered in modern conflict zones. Cougar MRAPs were developed in response to the high casualty rates experienced by military personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan due to roadside bombings and insurgent attacks.
Some key features and information about the Cougar MRAP:
The Cougar MRAP is manufactured by the American company Force Protection Inc, which is now part of General Dynamics Land Systems.
The Cougar family includes various variants, with different sizes and configurations to meet specific mission requirements. Some common variants include the Cougar 4×4, Cougar 6×6, and Cougar HE (Hardened Engineer) for route clearance operations.
The Cougar MRAPs are designed with heavy armour to protect occupants from small arms fire, rocket-propelled grenades, and explosive blasts. The V-shaped hull is a distinctive feature that helps deflect blast forces away from the crew compartment, reducing the risk of injury.
These vehicles are equipped with powerful engines and off-road capabilities, making them suitable for a wide range of terrains. The 4×4 and 6×6 variants offer different levels of mobility and payload capacity.
Depending on the specific variant, Cougars typically accommodate a driver, co-driver, and several passengers, with seating arrangements varying based on the mission.
The primary purpose of the Cougar MRAP is to protect personnel from roadside bombs and ambushes. They have been used by various military forces, including the United States, during the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Over the years, improvements and upgrades have been made to the Cougar MRAPs to enhance their survivability and performance. These upgrades often include better armour, improved suspension systems, and communication equipment.
The asset is designed as a standard Unreal vehicle with an interior, but it can be customized to suit specific project requirements. It is fully drivable, utilizing physics simulations provided by Epic Games’ Chaos Vehicles plugin. Please note that the Chaos Vehicles plugin must be enabled for proper vehicle movement. The scene incorporates Epic Games’ Volumetrics plugin for environmental clouds and utilizes Lumen for advanced lighting effects.
A sample showcase/demo Blueprint is included with an environment map and a user interface (UI). When you “Play” the map, the UI provides camera presets, sliders, and buttons to showcase the key functionalities of the vechiel.
This asset includes the use of Epic Games’ Volumetrics plugin and Chaos Vehicles system plugin for demonstration purposes only. However, the vehicle asset can be utilized and modified in personal projects without these plugins enabled.
The Volumetrics plugin is employed to create and render the environmental clouds within the scene, utilizing its volume creation and rendering tools. The Chaos Vehicles system plugin allows for realistic vehicle movement by utilizing advanced physics simulations.
Please note that all rights pertaining to the Volumetrics plugin and the Chaos Vehicles system plugin are the exclusive property of Epic Games. Vigilante makes no warranties, expressed or implied, regarding the usage of Epic’s plugins.
